Visakhapatnam
Port Authority (VPA) and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) partnered to construct a
Rs 300 crore flyover to alleviate congestion and enhance cargo movement. The 3.3 km flyover will connect Seahorse
Junction to the dock area, eliminating 11 level crossings. This
infrastructure upgrade aims to improve traffic management and efficiency at one
of India’s major ports in Andhra Pradesh.
An
agreement worth Rs 300 crore was signed between Visakhapatnam Port Authority
(VPA) and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) to construct a flyover to reduce
congestion and enable seamless cargo movement via road and rail traffic towards
the port. The project will cover the
areas surrounding the port and critical parts of the city leading to it and is
designed to improve traffic management and cargo evacuation.
According
to an official press release from VPA, “...The estimated cost of the project is
approximately Rs 300 crore. The flyover will eliminate 11 level crossings
obstructing traffic flow, ensuring smooth cargo movement.” The
flyover, which spans 3.3 km in length, will feature a carriageway width of
seven metres for two lanes and 10.5 metres for three lanes, facilitating
efficient entry and exit for port-bound traffic.
