This is the second time in less than 7 days that
the group has made this claim with a December 31, 2024 report when the U.S said that it was targeting
Houthi command centres, weapon storage sites and radar systems.
Spokesperson Yahya Saree said that Houthi forces
undertook a special operation against Carrier Truman with 2 cruise missiles and
4 drones in the northern part of the Red Sea, as the U.S was going to launch a
lethal aerial attack on Yemen. The operation led to the failure of the U.S
attack, he added.
However, the U.S.
Central Command has not commented and instead said that U.S. forces are focused
on ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
Per a CENTCOM update,
U.S and coalition forces staged several raids against ISIS positions between
December 30, 2024 and January 6, 2025, in which an ISIS attack cell leader in
Syria was captured.
Houthis have also struck central and southern parts
of Israel with drones and missiles, leading to retaliatory attacks from Israel,
which might increase its attacks in response to Houthi strikes.
Houthis had also
claimed to have downed two U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drones in December. It is just over
3 weeks since CENTCOM announced the arrival of Truman and its strike group in
the region.
The carrier group was
deployed on September 23, from Naval Station Norfolk for a regular deployment
and arrived in the region on December 14, 2024. In the past few months, tensions have remained as Houthis have
continued to target US Warships.
