The group has taken possession of the industrial plot,
and the logistics park would mean hundreds of new jobs to locals, he added. It will have many warehouses to be operated
by private firms and Flipkart will be among the first to set up a facility.
The Walmart-owned ecommerce firm is expected to get its facility up by December
this year, sources briefed on the subject said. Flipkart did not respond to an
email seeking comment.
The logistics park is coming up at Kalamassery, which
is also the constituency that Rajeeve represents in the Kerala assembly. The Adani Group will also be investing Rs
10,000 crore on phase II of the Vizhinjam deepwater multipurpose port in Kerala
over the next three years. The government and the group together have
invested Rs 7,900 crore under the first phase of the project built since 2015
under a public private partnership (PPP) model. In the second phase, the entire
investment would come from the infrastructure conglomerate, officials said.
The group will also be investing Rs 2,000 crore on the redevelopment of
the Thiruvananthapuram airport over the next five years.
The Adani Group, Rajeeve said, was stepping up its investments in
Kerala, across sectors. The investments
being made by the Adani Group is the highest ever Kerala has received in its
history from a private player, with a potential to add thousands of new and
supporting jobs in the years to come, people in the know said.
The government is holding a two-day Vizhinjam Conclave from January 28
ahead of the Invest Kerala Global Summit scheduled for February 21-22, the
minister said, adding that the seaport in Thiruvananthapuram district would
play a big role in shaping the state’s future, increasing its global
connectivity and economic growth.
The government hopes to sign up about 20 investment
agreements. The two-day event aims to explore industrial opportunities tied to
the port and its ancillary industries, while also seeking investments in
various other sectors, Rajeeve said. Representatives from multinational
companies with substantial investments in port-related projects will
participate, the minister added.
The conclave is expected to help generate employment in industries
associated with port operations, Rajeeve said. It will also seek to initiate efforts to engage local communities and
position Vizhinjam as a model for inclusive development.
