In a significant move towards promoting sustainable maritime operations,
Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Bapu's Shipping (Jamnagar) Pvt. Ltd. (BSJPL) for Bunker Barge Services for
Bio-Methanol Bunkering at Kandla Port.
The MoU signing ceremony was graced by Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME,
Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority. The MoU was signed by Shri V. Raveendra
Reddy, Chief Engineer-DPA and Shri BhupendraSinh Jadeja, Director, BSJPL in the
presence of senior officials of DPA & BSJPL. This partnership underscores
DPA’s commitment to environmental sustainability and alternative fuel adoption
in the maritime sector.
With the increasing global focus on reducing carbon footprints and
promoting green energy, the introduction of Bio-Methanol bunkering services at
Kandla Port is a forward-looking initiative. Bio-Methanol, as a cleaner
alternative fuel, significantly reduces emissions and contributing to greener
shipping practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman DPA,
emphasized the port’s vision to lead the way in green energy solutions.
“Deendayal Port Authority is committed to adopting innovative and sustainable
bunkering solutions. This MoU marks a step in our journey towards eco-friendly
port operations, in line with India’s maritime decarbonization goals and the
Net Zero goal set by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji,” he stated.
Shri BhupendraSinh Jadeja, Director, BSJPL, highlighted the importance
of this collaboration. “Bio-Methanol is a promising alternative fuel, and we
are proud to partner with DPA in facilitating its adoption. This initiative
will not only support India’s green shipping agenda but also open new
opportunities for sustainable fuel infrastructure at Indian ports.”
The agreement aligns with the Government of India’s vision for green
ports and sustainable maritime transport.
