Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) accompanied by Mr. Shyam Jaganathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping and Capt. (Dr.) Daniel J. Joseph, Deputy
Director General of Shipping visited ISHS on 19th February 2025.
A
ceremonial guard of honour was accorded to IMO Secretary-General Mr. Arsenio
Dominguez, Mr. Shyam Jaganathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, and Capt.
(Dr.) Daniel J. Joseph, Deputy Director General of Shipping, as a mark of
respect and recognition for their contributions to the maritime industry.
During his visit, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez paid homage
at the Seafarers War Memorial, recognizing the sacrifices and contributions of
Indian seafarers to maritime history. The memorial stands as a testament to the
bravery and dedication of sailors who served during times of war. As a mark of respect and remembrance, Mr.
Dominguez and Mr. Jaganathan laid a wreath at the Seafarers War Memorial.
The IMO Secretary-General also visited various facilities at the Indian Sailors
Home Society (ISHS), including the gym, medical center, yoga hall, and indoor
games zone.
Mr. Milind Kandalgaonkar, General
Secretary-cum-Treasurer of NUSI and Deputy Chairman of ISHS presented a memento
to Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, IMO Secretary-General, on behalf of the Indian
Sailors of Home Society.
The IMO Secretary-General expressed heartfelt
gratitude for the warm welcome and admiration received from our seafarers. He
emphasized the seafarers vital role in global maritime operations and
reaffirmed the IMO commitment to their welfare and professional growth. Deeply
moved by the experience, he assured the seafarers that he would make it a
priority to visit the Indian Sailors Home Society again, considering it a good
opportunity to engage with them.
