IMC Directors met Hon. Minister in Mumbai and briefed him about the role and scope of IMC in future to contribute to the growth of Maritime Sector. Directors also briefed him how IMC is becoming a truly Apex Body in Maritime Sector in India and interest of several prominent Maritime Associations, Trade bodies, Central Govt. bodies and State maritime boards, Shipyards, Ports, Institutions etc to join the IMC.
“We would like to thank the Hon’ble Minister for meeting IMC Directors and guiding us in shaping the future role of IMC in collaboration with the MoPSW” said Mr Devki Nandan, Chairman of IMC Board.
Speaking after the meeting, Shri Shankar Shinde, Vice Chairman stated that “MIV 2030 is our roadmap to transforming logistics—enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and unlocking multimodal synergies. By streamlining operations and promoting coastal and port-led development, we are building a future-ready, competitive logistics ecosystem”.
Emphasising on the need to lead the World towards a Safe, Sustainable and Green maritime Sector, Capt Sankalp Shukla, Director/Hon. Secretary stated that IMC will strive to enhance India’s global stature and Maritime Cooperation by collaborating with advanced maritime countries.
Capt Vikas Vij, Director/Treasurer stated that IMC shall promote Indian Flagged ships in Ocean, Coastal, and IV Sector and support improving the numbers and tonnage under Indian Flagged Vessels for EXIM and domestic trade.
Emphasising the need to enhance global share in Ship Building and Ship Repair, Shri Arjun Ashok Chowgule, Director stated that MIV 2030 has identified shipbuilding and ship repair as key industries for India’s development journey and the sector is poised to play a significant role in Viksit Bharat 2047.
Shri Maneesh Pradhan, Director stressed the need to promote the key interventions identified for promoting research & innovation, enhancement of education & training aimed at developing a conducive and professional ecosystem for seafarers.
Shri Rahul Modi, Director stated that in addition to digitalization of maritime processes, development of smart ports, and creation of a National Logistics Portal, promoting coastal shipping, port-led industrialization, and multimodal connectivity will be our top priority.
The Indian Maritime Centre (IMC) is an Apex Body envisaged by Government of India under the patronage of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) aimed at pursuing the objectives set out in the Maritime India Vision:2030 (MIV:2030) and Maritime Amrit Kal Vision:2047 (MAKV:2047) to transform India as a formidable Global Maritime Leader. IMC will represent Indian Maritime sector in India & abroad (including IMO), and all the stakeholders who are directly or indirectly connected with the Indian maritime trade are welcome to join IMC with a view to achieve the above objectives through the collective efforts of all.
As on date, the membership strength of IMC has increased to 22, and many more prominent Govt & Private bodies are in the process of becoming members.
