About 20,000 workers will resume construction works
in the Greenfield capital project in Amaravati after final clearance from
the upcoming State cabinet meeting on March 17. According to Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban
Development Ponguru Narayana, the works will be taken up immediately
after the approval of the State Cabinet next week and about 20,000 workers are
expected to be engaged in the construction work by next month.

(CRDA), Andhra
Pradesh had already
cleared 59 tenders for taking up developmental works worth ₹37,702 crore.
Tenders have already been called for 73 different works worth ₹48,012 crore as
the Cabinet has already cleared these works.
Of these tenders, 59 were cleared by the CRDA on
Tuesday for works with an estimated cost of ₹37,702 crore and the the
Letter of Intent will be issued immediately for these works. Of these 59
works, the worth of 22 works of the CRDA limits alone is ₹22,607 crore while
the 37 other works of the ADC are worth ₹15,095.04 crore.
The CRDA also
cleared the land allocation for 31 various organisations. Also, the date has
been extended to change the location of the land allocated to 11 other units
while the CRDA accepted the proposal to change the location of land for two
units. “The development of
the capital city of Amaravati is expected to cost an estimated ₹64,000 crore,’‘
the Minister said while adding the taxes collected from the people would not be
spent for this purpose. Of the total extent of land acquired from the
farmers, the CRDA has an excess of 6,203 acres and of this, 1900 acres will be
allocated to various organisations.
The amount generated either by mortgaging or
selling the surplus land the capital city will be constructed. The State
Government has already raised ₹15,000 crore loan from the World Bank and
another ₹11,000 crore will be raised as loan from HUDCO while ₹5,000 crore will
be borrowed from various other banks taking the total funds to be mobilised to
31,000 crore, as per Government data.
Amaravati capital region has an extent of 53,500
acres. The construction of the new capital, started by the Telugu Desam Party
government during 2014-19, was halted midway by the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy - led
YSR Congress Party Government when it was in power during 2019-24.
