Chennai Port and Kamarajar Port have
achieved a historic milestone with a combined cargo throughput exceeding
100 million metric tonnes (MMT) for the first time, reaching a total
of 103.37 MMT. Chennai Port handled 54.96 MMT, and Kamarajar Port
contributed 48.41 MMT.
Chennai Port achieved an all-time high
in container handling, exceeding 1.8 million TEUs.
Chennai port also achieved its
highest-ever single-day handling of trailers, with 6,256
trailers processed. Kamarajar Port achieved its highest-ever cargo
handling volume of 48.41 MMT. KPL recorded its highest-ever monthly cargo
handling at 4.58 million tonnes during March 2025. The port handled
a record number of 1110 vessels.
Both Chennai Port and Kamarajar Port
achieved record operating incomes, with each port crossing the Rs. 1000
crore mark. Chennai Port's income from operations reached Rs. 1088.22
crores. Kamarajar Port's income from operations was Rs. 1130.60
crores. Kamarajar Port achieved a record Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs. 545.95
crores, crossing the Rs. 500 crore threshold for the first time. The
net worth of KPL reached Rs. 3040.57 crores, crossing Rs. 3000 crores for the
first time.
In Chennai Port, the Cruise
terminal capacity enhancement from 1,000 to 1,800 passengers.
In Kamarajar Port, the Common user coal terminal
capacity optimization (from 9.6 MTPA to 11MTPA) and construction of a 3 MTPA
IOCL captive jetty (Rs. 921 crores).
Both ports have allocated Rs. 16.04
crores for CSR, supporting initiatives such as smart vision for the
visually impaired, the Swabodhini school for differently-abled students, RO
plants for clean water supply, and digital classrooms.
KPL was recognized with the Economic
Times “CSR Special Commendation Award” in the ET2Good4Good Event.
Chennai Port was recognized globally at
the World Ports Conference in Hamburg, Germany, on October 9, 2024, and became
the first Indian Port to win the International Association of Ports and
Harbours (IAPH) Sustainability Award.
