Air traffic between India and Singapore hits record 5.5 million passengers in 2024

Air travel between India and Singapore reached an all-time high in 2024, with over 5 million passengers recorded for the first time, according to data shared by Singapore’s Changi Airport. Passenger numbers stood at 5.5 million this year, marking a 12 percent rise from 2023 and a 15 percent increase over pre-pandemic levels in 2019. India is now Changi Airport’s sixth-largest market.Currently, Changi Airport is connected to 16 cities in India, including key hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Six airlines – Air India, Air India Express, DrukAir, IndiGo, Scoot, and Singapore Airlines – operate around 280 weekly flights between the two countries, the airport said in a statement this week. Changi continues to be one of Southeast Asia’s most connected airports to India.

To further this growth, Changi Airport plans to expand its network to additional Indian cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Surat and Chandigarh in the near to medium term. Changi Airport Group expressed optimism about sustained growth in the coming year. As of March 2025, the airport served 100 airlines offering 7,400 scheduled weekly flights to more than 160 destinations across 49 countries and territories.

Recent route additions include Phu Quoc in Vietnam and Dali in China, with a new connection to Vienna in Austria set to launch soon. The airport noted that these routes give travellers more exciting choices. Changi also plans to keep investing in infrastructure, systems, and processes to boost capacity and support long-term growth across the Asia-Pacific.

Singapore Changi Airport, which saw around 67.7 million passenger movements in 2024, has been named the World’s Best Airport 2025 at the Skytrax World Airport Awards held during the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Madrid.

Yam Kum Weng, Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airport Group, said: “It is indeed gratifying to receive this recognition, and this certainly encourages us to continue to strive to provide the best travel experience... As air travel continues to grow, we look forward to welcoming passengers to experience the magic at Changi Airport.”

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said: “It is a great achievement for Singapore Changi Airport to receive the highest award as the World’s Best Airport 2025, this being a record-breaking 13th time in the awards history that they have scooped this award.”
