A major fire broke out
at a godown storing equipment for an under-construction 70 MW solar power plant
of NTPC, a central public sector undertaking, in Gujarat’s Dahod district late on Monday night. Firefighting operations
continued through the night and were brought under control by Tuesday morning,
officials confirmed. The incident
occurred at around 9.30 pm in Bhatiwada village. According to Deputy
Superintendent of Police Jagdish Bhandari, the blaze resulted in extensive
damage, with nearly the entire godown destroyed. However, there were no
casualties reported...The fire service responded swiftly, with firefighting
units from Dahod, Godhra, Jhalod, and Chhota Udepur deployed to the site. A fire officer noted that strong winds
posed significant challenges in containing the flames.
“The control room received the alert at around 9.35 pm,
and multiple fire tenders were dispatched immediately. The wind made the
operation more difficult, but the situation was largely under control by
Tuesday morning,” the officer stated.
An NTPC employee on-site
said the fire had completely destroyed the stored materials, resulting in
substantial financial losses.
