Coal India Limited
(CIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Damodar Valley
Corporation (DVC) to jointly develop a coal-fired 2×800 MW ultra supercritical
power plant in Jharkhand.
This brownfield project will be an expansion of the
existing Chandrapura thermal power station which currently has a capacity of
2×250 MW. The proposed project involves a total investment of Rs. 165 billion.
The joint venture company will be based on a 50:50 equity sharing model. Coal for the power plants will be sourced
from nearby coalfields operated by CIL’s subsidiaries, Bharat Coking Coal
Limited and Central Coalfields Limited.
