Previous week, we looked into the advantage of the principle of management that underscores the Unity of Command.

  We will see some more advantages of this crucial principle of management.

 Under all circumstances, man has to live with and in relationships. Home is built of intimate relationships and a workplace thrives on professional relationships. Of late, relationship management is catching attention of all the industries that mean to sustain. The Principle of the Unity of Command in a way is a tool that facilitates improvement in human relationships. With the necessity to obey the command of the Superior, all employees realize the significance of coordinating between themselves to achieve the goal, set by the Superior which in essence is the goal of the management.

 All employees are not and cannot be uniformly efficient and even one employee cannot be always efficient under all circumstances. Being together and moving together help the employees know their strength and their weakness, a fundamental quality required for further improvement of one’s efficiency.  So, while honestly complying with the principle of the Unity of Command, the employee learns the virtue of human interpersonal skills that teach him through direct experience in contrast to academic knowledge not only how to do a professional job but also how to live with other human beings. In effect, the principle of the Unity of Command promotes better coordination which also implies necessary control, born out of understanding of the present situation.

 It also proves another fact about the management: namely, management is a continuous process. It is not that it sets a goal and struggles to achieve it and having achieved it sooner or later, turns static, frozen and dead. It is a continuous process that has no ending; being in the business is all that matters.

 While trying to follow the command of the leader in all earnestness, the employee develops necessarily socializing skill which integrates him with others. It is not that whatever good he learns he leaves back when he leaves the workplace at the end of the day and forgets them at home; even at home, the socializing spirit continues resulting in firming up the intimate relations that make home. What begins at the workplace continues at home as well. He is an excellent member of a team that works for the management and also an excellent member of the house leading all to the goal of the family: happy living.  Basically, he learns the inevitable significance of team work, be it in the workplace or in the place for which he goes for work.
